Kizomba is a dance and music style that originated in Angola and since the eighties and nineties it has spread across Europe and other parts of the world. The dance is characterized by the importance of connection, small and controlled footwork, and a strong focus on leading, following, and musicality.
Kizomba (sometimes also called traditional Kizomba) is the primary dance style offered in the lessons. In the higher levels styles like Semba, Tarraxinha and other related genres are also introduced. Fusion Kizomba and Urban Kizz are generally not included in the curriculum.
Our Kizomba Levels
Level 1 (Beginners) is designed for absolute beginners as well as dancers who want to refine their basics The focus is on basic steps and exercises that improve leading, following, and connection. After this 10-week course, you'll have a solid repertoire of moves to enjoy dancing through an entire night. Not a complete beginner, but never taken classes with us before? We recommend starting with the beginner series or at least joining the 5 final lessons of this series.
Level 1+ of this miniseries is meant for dancers with some Kizomba-experience, who want to refine their basics and technique. We focus on fundamentals, connection and strenghtening your role as leader or follower.
Level 2 (Improvers) focuses on combining the basic steps and introducing new movements. The emphasis lays in expanding your Kizomba vocabulary and sharpening your technique. At least 10 classes of experience are needed to comfortably keep up at this level.
Level 2+ of this miniseries is meant for dancers who have completed level 2, and want to dive deeper. During these 5 weeks we'll work on combinations, technique, and variations. Occasionally we'll explore other Kizomba-adjacent dances and styles such as Semba or Fusion Kizomba.
Level 3 (Intermediate) introduces more advanced combinations, movements, and techniques. Elements from Semba and Tarraxinha may also be included.
Level 3+ of this miniseries is meant for dancers who are comfortable with level 3 and seek an additional challenge. During these 5 weeks we'll work on advanced combinations, technique, and refinement. Occasionally we'll explore other Kizomba-adjacent dances and styles such as Semba or Fusion Kizomba.
We highly recommend following the same level multiple times. This allows you to fully absorb the techniques before levelling up. Each series features different movements, so even when revisiting a level, you will always discover fresh elements and combinations.
